As the number of patients who are treated outside of the traditional hospital setting continues to rise, the number of community nurses (also known as district nurses) needed to support both the NHS and private sector has largely increased. At Athona, we’re continuing to support both the NHS and private sector and currently have a number of community nursing jobs available across London, Berkshire, Essex, Kent, Suffolk and Surrey.
As qualified nurses, community nurses play a vital role in the by supporting patients in their homes, care homes, at local GP surgeries and within other healthcare facilities. There is also a large number of roles to fill as a CPN (community psychiatric nurse) where you will be working as a band 6 and above.
The main aim of a community nurse is to provide dedicated care to patients in the right environment. Often helping meet the needs of disabled, elderly and vulnerable patients who are unable to visit a hospital or those who have recently been discharged from hospital.
Community nurses will often find themselves working in varied environments, and no two days will ever be the same. As you will be working across a number of neighbourhoods, it is also vital that as a community nurse you are a car driver and have the ability to travel within the local area.
