This is a fantastic opportunity for midwives to be involved in innovative midwifery by providing continuity of care for those maternity women who are vulnerable or with complex social issues. There is a focus on continuity of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care with a named midwife and buddy for every woman. This role includes a variety of clinical care from bookings, antenatal follow ups, safeguarding meetings and conferences, on-calls for intrapartum care for your own/team women and postnatal care at home or in a clinic.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to women throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods in a variety of settings such as the community, hospital and woman’s home.
  • Provide continuity of care and carer in combination with emotional and psychological support during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods in a variety of settings such as the community, hospital and woman’s home.
  • Liaise appropriately with services to ensure safe and effective care is provided to women at the right place, and at the right time. Act as an advocate for women, whilst safeguarding her and her wider family and social group where appropriate.
  • Have an in depth understanding of barriers which may impact or inhibit women from accessing timely and regular antenatal care.
  • Have sound knowledge of safeguarding issues, domestic abuse, female genital mutilation and mental health illness.

  • Advocate for women and support them in their choices surrounding pregnancy and birth, whilst empowering them and promoting birth as a normal, physiological process.
  • Promote both short-term and long term health through evidence-based education and the facilitation of Parent Education initiatives.
  • Provide and perform accurate assessments and procedures during antenatal appointments, labour care (including supporting home birth, water birth, perineal suturing, cannulation and intravenous administration of drugs) and in the postnatal period.
  • Administer medications under the scope of Midwifery Exemptions/Patient Group Directives when required or appropriate.

You Must

  • Be a Registered Midwife.
  • Proven evidence of leadership in multi-professional teams.
  • Evidence of applying current research to practice.
  • Relevant current clinical experience.
  • Experience of staff management.
  • Experience in change management
  • Previous mentorship experience.
  • Car driver is ideal.
