Job Description
Currently we have an excellent permanent opportunity for a lead play specialist to join our client – a palliative care hospice for babies and children, to provide service to their community inside and outside the hospice, across the East Midlands.
You will provide therapeutic and generic, play and leisure activities for babies, children and young people at Rainbows, creating meaningful and enjoyable memories in a safe and caring environment.
Salary: Up to £29,114(DoE)
Position: Lead Outreach Play Specialist
Hours: Part Time 22.5
Setting: Children’s Palliative Care
Location: East Midlands
Key Responsibilities:
- Advocate for the essential role of play in a child’s life, emphasizing the UN’s recognition of every child’s right to play.
- Develop and maintain an engaging, child-centered environment where play naturally occurs at all times.
- Assist the play team in assessing, planning, and implementing individualised activity programs for babies, children, and young people in the hospice.
- Collaborate with the Head of Hospice and Family Support Lead to implement and review relevant policies and practices, ensuring alignment with organisational and national standards.
- Organise and lead hospice events such as Family Fun Days and the annual Christmas party.
- Work with shift coordinators to arrange appropriate play sessions, outings, and visitor activities based on operational needs.
- Develop resources for memory-making activities and train the play team to effectively use them, supporting families in creating lasting memories.
- Guide the play team in having complex and sensitive conversations with families regarding end-of-life care, recommending suitable activities and advising on their timing.
- Lead and manage the Outreach Play service, handling referrals, assessments, and delivery of tailored activity programs for children in the community.
- Oversee the play and activities service, including team management, caseload delegation, rota planning, and performance evaluations, ensuring effective team functioning and continuous professional development.

- HPSET registration as a specialist
- experience of working with babies and children
