Are you an experienced Theatre Nurse looking for a permanent position in a new area? Have you considered Gibraltar?

We’re working with Gilbraltar Health Authority to recruit a Theatre Nurse to work a 6 month contract. Travel will be reimbursed, and accommodation can be sourced.

Hours – 37.5 hours per week.

Main Duties include:

  • To assist the CNM/Sister/Charge Nurse in the effective day to day management of the Operating Department within the Gibraltar Health Authority.
  • To participate in the development and implementation of all special protocols.
  • To take care and be responsible for all equipment in the Department.
  • To assist in the efficient ordering management as per current departmental policies on pharmaceutical, surgical and other supplies.
  • Facilitate and organise teaching and education within the department and assist the School of Health Studies as an invited lecturer when required to do so, also Mentor and support Student Nurses when in Theatre.
  • To liase with the multi-disciplinary team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the requirements for the patient and the operating list.
  • To ensure prompt and effective completion of documentation following an accident or untoward incident.
  • To provide leadership skills and an ability to delegate appropriately and effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To provide a holistic approach to nursing care within the Operating Department, including Anaesthetics.
  • To maintain clear, accurate and comprehensive records and ensure verbal communication is clearly understood.
  • To communicate verbally with patients, relatives and colleagues in a clear, accurate and sensitive manner.
  • Ensure a thorough assessment and safe preparation of the Operating Suite prior to surgery.
  • Support the multi-disciplinary team effectively, through the peri-operative nursing procedure in the operating department.
  • Ensure safe disposal of clinical waste, linen, bodily fluids and sharps in accordance with the GHA and Departmental Policy.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of current professional issues and participate in Evidence Based Practice.
  • Maintain Operating Department standards in order to contribute effectively to the Operating Department’s audit programme.

Successful candidates will need:

  • Full NMC registration
  • Enhanced DBS
  • Flexibility and a strong “can do” attitude.
