NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) have proposed new guidelines outlining the need for supervised brushing lessons to be implemented into the primary curriculum.

The movement comes after a recent Public Health survey found 12% of young children across the UK were found to have tooth decay. With over 25,000 children aged between 5 and 9 being admitted to hospitals every year with severe problems.

If these new guidelines are put in place, then at least once a day children up to the age of 11 will be involved with a teeth brushing session. For many children this will be the only time in the day when they will brush their teeth.
