We have a wonderful bunch of employees here at Athona, so throughout 2021 we will be shining the spotlight on a different employee each month to find out more about their job role and how they are Affecting Futures. From Recruitment Consultant’s to our support functions, there are lots of people doing great work every day at Athona.
This month we chatted to Aron Pollock, a resourcer in our acute medicine team.
What is your role at Athona and day-to-day responsibilities?
My main objective day-to-day is to resource doctors from various platforms such as LinkedIn, job boards, our database and more. I will post job adverts to multiple platforms and get in contact with suitable applicants for roles we are looking to fill. I also help my colleagues with any admin duties they may need help with throughout the day.
How did you get into recruitment?
After not having any office experience after leaving my previous career path, I went into a recruitment apprenticeship scheme and really enjoyed the competitiveness and getting to engage with so many different types of people on a daily basis, which made me want to take on a resourcer role full time.
What is the most rewarding part of your role?
When all the hard work has paid off and the doctor I am working with has secured the role that they were looking for from the get-go.
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your role?
Coming into a new market was quite challenging. If things get tough I always remind myself to stay positive and keep in mind what the end goal is.
What makes a candidate stand out for you?
Those who can portray their personality over the phone always stand out to me. People who open up and let you in so you can understand and empathise with their situation always really stand out too, and are much easier to find the right kind of work for.
What do you admire most about your candidates?
Our candidates have so much knowledge, and they study for so long to get to the stage they are at, which I really admire. They also know exactly what needs to be done to get to the next stage in their career and set out clear goals to make sure they get there.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Athona?
I love the work culture, I have a great team around me that are always there to offer support whenever I need a helping hand.
Any tips for anyone wanting to work in recruitment?
Be ready to have knock-backs but always remember the wins will be worth it!
