We have a wonderful bunch of employees here at Athona, so throughout 2021 we will be shining the spotlight on a different employee each month to find out more about their job role and how they are Affecting Futures. From Recruitment Consultant’s to our support functions, there are lots of people doing great work every day at Athona.
This month we chatted to Harry Sibbons, a recruitment consultant in our Talking Therapies team.
What is your role at Athona and day-to-day responsibilities?
I am a Recruitment Consultant for Athona’s AHP/HSS desk. On a day-to-day basis I contact great candidates for any of our Talking Therapies roles and liaise with clients to match the perfect candidates to the most suitable job post.
When I’m not sourcing for job roles, I do the best I can to make sure all of my candidates and clients are happy in their positions and to make sure everyone is getting paid correctly and on time!
How did you get into recruitment?
I first started working at an Umbrella Company, I would have conversations with recruitment consultants on a daily basis, one of which was telling me about how he helped a man struggling to get work by finding him the perfect job. This sounded great and like something I would enjoy doing, which encouraged me to move into helping others find their perfect role!
You were recently promoted from resourcer to recruitment consultant, how did you find the transition?
When I was a resourcer, I always liked to act as if I was already a consultant to prepare for the day I became one, which definitely made the transition easier down the line. It also helped that I had a really supportive team and manager, so the transition felt like the right step up at the right time.
What is the most rewarding part of your role?
The most rewarding part of my role is finding the perfect job for my candidates, if they’re happy, I’m happy!
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your role?
The biggest challenge has always been to stay positive when things don’t go to plan. You have to make sure to keep a positive mindset even in the tough times.
Has anything changed in your role at all due to the pandemic?
Myself and the team used to visit candidates and clients during the summer months and December, and not being able to do so last year definitely lowered morale. However, it allowed us to become even more resilient as a team and I have high hopes for 2021!
What makes a candidate stand out for you?
The candidates that have the same positive attitude as myself are the ones that stand out the most to me!
What do you admire most about your candidates?
I admire the hard work and commitment they have to their jobs and the healthcare sector every day, and especially throughout the pandemic.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Athona?
My favourite thing about Athona is definitely the people, the Athona team are all very welcoming and friendly.
Any tips for anyone wanting to work in recruitment?
Choose your team wisely, as chemistry can often be the most important thing in a work environment!
