Pharmacy Dream Jobs

What Would Your Dream Pharmacy Job Be?

Some pharmacists seek adventure in the far corners of the world away from the normal 9-5. There are numerous career paths for new and experienced pharmacists beyond counselling patients and dispensing from behind retail counters or in hospital settings. The government employs most, whilst others teach, or are employed by pharmaceutical companies, involved in sports, or help to coordinate disaster-relief efforts. So, what are you looking for from your dream role?

Luxury As An On-board Pharmacist Sailing The World’s Oceans?

As a Qualified Pharmacist you can work in some pretty exciting locations tax free. For those flexible on their location of work, then on board luxury cruise liners docking at an array of beautiful hotspots on a variety of worldwide itineraries is for you.

Being a pharmacist on-board a cruise ship offers you the opportunity to travel the world, enhance your skills and work alongside an experienced medical team and partake in care offered in an on-board medical centre. Typically benefits include continuous professional development, health benefits, food and lodging while aboard the vessel and a competitive remuneration package. These assignments for on-board healthcare professionals are typically 4 months in duration.

Challenging Behind Iron Bars?

I’m sure prison work isn’t for everybody for any number of reasons but many men and women work in prison as pharmacists. Just because someone is in prison, does not mean they receive any less quality of healthcare. A prison pharmacist needs to cater for those patients who are terminally ill whilst in prison or who have a diagnosable mental health or substance misuse problem. A prison pharmacist is a combination of both a community and a hospital pharmacist, dealing with doctor’s queries, advising prison staff on the control of high-risk medicines and dispensing prescriptions to prisoners.

Prison pharmacists are required to perform duties similar to a hospital pharmacist, including dealing with patients in a clinical manner on a hospital wing, providing advice on medication. The turnover of patients and medicines is less than hospitals, so ward rounds are done once a week.

Paradise On A Military Base Over The International Date Line?

That’s right, Pharmacy Technician jobs are available within the armed forces on tropical Islands with outstanding SCUBA diving and water sports. Ideal for those wanting to explore and typically all housing and food is paid for. If the post is longer than 12 months, no federal income tax is incurred and potentially your flights are paid for. What’s not to like?

Challenging Practising In The Army?

Wherever the Army is positioned there will be a pharmacy function, where you can work within all aspects of pharmacy from community and hospital pharmacy to drug research and formulation design. There’s the added challenge of working in a military environment. In time of conflict, the pharmacist’s role is to distribute drugs, dressing and medical equipment to all units in the theatre of operations. Most Army pharmacists have high disposable incomes and are typically fast-tracked to managerial roles, even at junior level due to the ethos of the military about stretching yourself and pushing your own limits.

So what would your dream pharmacy role be? One of Luxury, Challenges, Training or Reward.
