NHS improvement service have paused a ban on NHS nurses taking additional agency shifts following outcry from RCN members.
The rule which was meant to come into place on the 1st April was dropped just a day before.
Janet Davies Chief executive and General Secretary said: ‘This was an ill-conceived plan by NHS Improvement and today’s U-turn will be welcomed by nursing staff across the country’
The RCN states that for many NHS nurses, the only way to ensure a decent level of income is to undertake additional work through an agency.
For many private sector nurses it was warned that they could see their earnings drop by an average of £1,150 annually.
The plans will now be on hold until further notice.
