Jeremy Corbyn has created a new position in his Shadow Cabinet. Labour MP for Liverpool Wavertree Luciana Berger, pictured, is the new Shadow Minister for Mental Health.

Is it about time we had a minister for mental health in the UK? Or is it unhelpful to disassociate mental health from health generally?

The position reflects Mr Corbyn’s enthusiasm for mental healthcare, and aims for the NHS to dedicate more resources by separating mental health administratively from acute medicine.

This plan also proposes the better testing of mental health problems by the Department for Work and Pensions, which the new Labour leader believes are not currently sufficient.
