Are you a qualified allied health professional looking to undertake a once in a lifetime opportunity? Ever thought about moving from Australia to the UK to experience a different way of life and have the perfect base to travel Europe? If so, relocating to the UK and working as an occupational therapist, physiotherapist or speech pathologist could be for you.

Our UK and Sydney-based teams have extensive knowledge and experience in helping secure short-term locum, contract and permanent jobs for allied health professionals across the UK. Whether you want to work for the NHS or would prefer a private setting, we have jobs in major cities, busy seaside towns and even quaint countryside villages – meaning there really is something for everyone.

Making the move to the UK can seem daunting, but that’s why our team are on-hand to offer advice and support and to help ensure the relocation process runs smoothly. Don’t forget we’re here to support you from pre-departure, on arrival and throughout the entirety of your placement in the UK.

When planning your move to the UK as an allied health professional (AHP), you’ll need to ensure you’re registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) before you can begin work. The HCPC work in a very similar way to the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and regulate AHPs in the UK by setting standards of professional training, performance and conduct, whilst also holding a register on who meets their standards.

The application process can take up to 60 days to complete, so it’s best to start as soon as possible. When applying with the HCPC you’ll need to ensure you have proof of address, details of your training and qualification, two professional references and a certificate of professional status from the regulator in the country where you last practised. You will also need to pay an initial fee of £495 (equivalent to roughly $930) for your application to be processed.

Full details on completing your application can be found on the HCPC website.

One important decision you’ll need to make when relocating to the UK is choosing where to live. There’s plenty of hustle and bustle of busy city life available to you in Manchester, Liverpool or London, or if you’re looking for a slower pace of life with unspoilt countryside and plenty of coastal air then Wales, Suffolk or Cornwall would suit your needs better.

It’s worth thinking about the cost of living in different areas of the UK and consider how much of your monthly wage will be spent on the necessities and how much will be left for you to enjoy your free time.

To open a UK bank account is easy, but you will often need your UK proof of address, so is best completed once you’re here. In the meantime you could set up an online bank account with Monzo or Starling, they work in the same way as a high street bank but can be set up using a straight-forward app on your smart phone.
