Job Description

Currently we have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist to join a specialist secure mental health service providing recovery-focused care for men within the criminal justice system.

Working across medium and low secure environments, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality forensic psychiatric care, leading multidisciplinary teams and supporting patients through their recovery journey.

This position offers the opportunity to combine expert clinical practice with service leadership, clinical governance and strategic development within an established forensic setting.

Position: Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist / Senior Forensic Psychiatrist Clinical Lead
Hours: Full Time
Setting: Medium and Low Secure Forensic Mental Health Services
Location: Abertillery, Blaenau Gwent, South Wales

Your key responsibilities will be;

  • Act as Responsible Clinician for a defined forensic caseload.
  • Lead psychiatric assessments and risk formulation processes.
  • Develop comprehensive treatment and recovery plans.
  • Liaise with courts, probation and criminal justice agencies.
  • Prepare reports for tribunals and Ministry of Justice hearings.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and supervise junior medical staff.
  • Support clinical governance and regulatory compliance activities.

For this role, we’re looking for someone who has;

  • MBChB, MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCPsych qualification and CCT or CESR in Psychiatry.
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
  • Significant experience within secure forensic mental health services.
  • Strong forensic risk assessment and management expertise.
