Job Description
Currently we have an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist with a specialism in Forensic Psychiatry to join a newly developed Low Secure Mental Health Service in Ireland. This purpose-built service provides specialist care for adults with complex psychiatric conditions and forensic risks, focusing on recovery, rehabilitation and risk reduction.
The role offers the opportunity to work within a consultant-led multidisciplinary team, providing clinical leadership and specialist psychiatric input for patients within a modern forensic setting. The service aims to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care while supporting individuals to safely transition to less secure environments.
The hospital has 50 beds with current occupancy of 17, offering a manageable caseload shared with the Clinical Director and supported by a junior doctor.
Salary: 230,000EURO – 260,000EURO (£200-£230K)
Position: Consultant Psychiatrist – Forensic Psychiatry
Hours: Full-time, onsite
Setting: Low Secure Forensic Mental Health Service
Location: Gormonston, Co. Meath, Ireland
Your key responsibilities will be;
- Provide clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary forensic mental health team
- Take clinical responsibility for patients within the Low Secure Unit
- Lead ward rounds, case discussions and clinical meetings
- Provide psychiatric assessment, formulation and treatment planning
- Supervise junior doctors and other clinical staff
- Contribute to governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives
- Participate in the on-call rota (1 in 7 service)
For this role, we’re looking for someone who has;
- Specialist registration with the Medical Council of Ireland / Eligibility to register (GMC Specialist Reg)
- Experience working in forensic psychiatry or secure mental health services
- Excellent clinical skills using a biopsychosocial approach
- Strong leadership within multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
