Job Description

Currently we have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Consultant Psychiatrist to take the next step in their career as a Medical Director. This senior clinical leadership role offers the opportunity to combine direct patient care with strategic leadership, clinical governance and service development within an established specialist mental health service.

Working as part of the senior management team, you will provide clinical and medical leadership across the hospital while maintaining clinical responsibilities for service users. You will lead the medical directorate, promote high standards of clinical practice and support the ongoing development of safe, effective and evidence-based services.

Salary: Competitive annual salary + £5,000 car allowance

Hours: Part-Time – 30 hours clinical responsibility

Location: Hertfordshire

Your key responsibilities will be;

  • Provide clinical and medical leadership across the hospital and medical directorate.
  • Oversee Mental Health Act administration, clinical policies and clinical standards.
  • Lead and evaluate medical services through clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to staff within the multidisciplinary service.
  • Chair regular medical meetings and contribute to clinical governance processes.
  • Work collaboratively with consultants and medical leaders to share best practice.
  • Ensure medical practice complies with GMC guidance and appraisal requirements.

For this role, we’re looking for someone who has;

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • GMC Specialist Register status in an appropriate psychiatric specialty.
  • Proven experience working as a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Proven experience in clinical and/or medical leadership and management.
  • Strong knowledge of mental health legislation, governance and contemporary mental health services.
  • Desirable experience includes;
  • Experience of change management and service improvement.
  • Experience with recruitment and retention of medical professionals.
  • Knowledge of purchaser and provider contractual arrangements.
  • Experience contributing to clinical governance, audit or quality improvement.
  • Strong understanding of strategic medical workforce development.
