Job Description
Currently we have an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Older Adults to join a well-established inpatient mental health service providing specialist assessment, care, and treatment for older adults with complex psychiatric and neurocognitive conditions. The role sits within a high-support therapeutic hospital environment and involves providing clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team supporting patients with complex mental illness, dementia, and neuropsychiatric conditions.
Salary: £160,000 + benefits
Position: Consultant Psychiatrist – Older Adults
Hours: Full Time (part-time may be considered)
Setting: Inpatient Mental Health Hospital
Location: Ringwood, Hampshire (New Forest)
Your key responsibilities will be;
• Provide clinical leadership and oversight to a multidisciplinary mental health team
• Act as Responsible Clinician for detained patients under the Mental Health Act
• Manage a caseload of approximately 20 older adult inpatients
• Chair MDT meetings and contribute to care planning and treatment pathways
• Prepare reports for tribunals, care reviews, and hospital managers’ hearings
• Assess referrals and contribute to admission and bed management decisions
• Participate in a 1:7 non-residential on-call rota covering two hospital sites
For this role, we’re looking for someone who has;
• GMC registration with inclusion on the Specialist Register
• CCT in Old Age, General Adult, or Forensic Psychiatry
• Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status preferred
• Experience working with older adult mental health patients
• Strong leadership and multidisciplinary team collaboration skills
