Job Description 

Currently we have an excellent opportunity for a Forensic Psychiatrist to join a well-established regional forensic mental health service in Christchurch, New Zealand. Working within an experienced multidisciplinary team, you’ll provide specialist forensic psychiatric care across secure inpatient, community, Court, Corrections and rehabilitation settings while supporting recovery-focused, patient-centred care.

Setting: Regional Forensic Mental Health Service

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand

Your key responsibilities will be;

  • Deliver specialist forensic psychiatric assessments and treatment.
  • Manage patients across inpatient and community forensic services.
  • Undertake comprehensive risk assessments and management planning.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary and justice sector teams.
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior staff.
  • Support quality improvement and service development initiatives.
  • Deliver culturally responsive, recovery-focused patient care.

For this role, we’re looking for someone who has;

  • Fellowship or equivalent specialist psychiatry qualification.
  • Eligibility for Medical Council of New Zealand registration.
  • Strong clinical judgement and leadership skills.
  • Experience within multidisciplinary mental health services.
  • Commitment to recovery-focused, patient-centred care.
