Senior Clinical Advisor (Band 6) – NHS 111 Integrated Urgent Care

Athona is recruiting experienced Band 6 Senior Clinical Advisors to join a well-established NHS 111 Integrated Urgent Care service in Croydon. This is an excellent locum opportunity offering regular ongoing work, flexible shift patterns, and the opportunity to work within a fast-paced clinical assessment environment.

Days, nights, evenings and weekends
Full-time and part-time opportunities

About the Role

As a Senior Clinical Advisor, you will provide expert remote clinical assessments, supporting patients through NHS 111 while offering clinical guidance to colleagues and ensuring safe, effective patient care. You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team, making informed clinical decisions and contributing to service quality and patient safety.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

Delivering high-quality telephone clinical assessments and triage.
Assessing patients using NHS Pathways, MTS and professional clinical judgement.
Supporting and mentoring Clinical Advisors and frontline staff.
Escalating high-risk cases appropriately.
Contributing to clinical governance, audits and service improvement initiatives.
Promoting excellent patient care and maintaining high clinical standards.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from:

Registered General Nurses (RGN) – NMC Registered
Registered Paramedics – HCPC Registered
Ideally, candidates will already be working at Band 6 level, although experienced clinicians with the relevant background are encouraged to apply.

Essential Skills & Experience

Successful candidates will have experience in one or more of the following:

NHS 111 or NHS 999 services
Telephone triage and Out of Hours (OOH) services
Accident & Emergency (A&E) triage
Ambulance Services
Urgent Treatment Centres (UTC)
Walk-in Centres
GP Out of Hours services
Acute Medical Wards
Intensive Care (ICU)
Remote clinical assessment and decision making
Clinical risk assessment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong patient-focused approach

Additional Requirements

Current NMC or HCPC registration.
Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
NHS Pathways or Manchester Triage System (MTS) telephone triage training is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
Strong clinical judgement and decision-making skills.
Professional attitude with an excellent patient care record.
