Meet Lisa and find out how she’s finding living and working in the UK.

Why were you interested in moving to the UK?

There are better working conditions in the UK compared to where I’m from, also because I’ve previously studied here I was keen to return.

How are you finding living in the UK so far?

After a year of living in the UK, I’ve found a great place to work and nice people to work with. I like living here, it’s different to what I thought it would be. It was a bit difficult in the beginning because of different habits, but I adapt easily to new environments and work situations.

Can you tell us what your typical working day is like?

I work shift systems that include; day shifts, late day shifts, evening shifts and night shifts. During day shifts I work in different areas, such as: plain film general area and portables, theatre, the interventional room and A&E plain film area. During evening shifts I work in the A&E area and during night shifts there’s only one radiographer working with the possibility to call the on call person if needed.

What do you love most about living in the UK?

I love the possibilities the UK offers, and having the opportunity to have a job where I can chose what I want to do. I also like to actively participate with my colleagues to solve problems and I like to meet new people with different habits and cultures, this was hard to find in my home country.

What advice would you give to another healthcare professional looking to relocate to the UK?

If someone was asking me for my advice on moving to the UK, I would tell them to think about the necessary documentation needed for professional registration – this was the most difficult thing to obtain. Secondly, I would say to be open minded and adaptable, don’t move if you’re not able to embrace new customs of life and work.

How would you rate the support you have received from your recruitment consultant?

I would rate the support from my recruitment consultant as 10/10. She’s been really helpful,  professional and friendly and I will always be grateful to her for finding me this job.
