Meet Crystal,  she is an apprentice for our Marketing team. Find out here what her day-to-day life is like at Athona.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me starts off with me getting into work at around ten to nine, I will greet my team and turn on my computer. Whilst that is loading I will get a glass of water, make my breakfast and proceed to check my emails. Afterwards I will put together my list for the day on the team board; so I can keep track of what I’m doing during the day. As my department is very busy we will usually have a catch up about what needs to be done. We will add things to our main list, as well as crossing things off. During the time up to lunch I will focus on completing as much as I can and get work ticked off the board, so I can focus on something else after lunch. I take my lunch break around 1pm and walk up to the high street. I return to work at 2pm and will carry on completing tasks up until 5:30.

What tasks do you complete on a day-to-day basis?

As my role is varied, the tasks I complete on a day-to-day basis change every day. Tasks I usually complete are; creating social images and leaflets on Adobe InDesign, writing newsletters, scheduling Tweets and Instagram posts, writing blogs, managing the charity tuck box, posting jobs onto BMJ and LinkedIn and every Friday afternoon I will complete my apprentice work.

What’s your favourite part about working with Athona?

My favourite part about it is how varied it is. I never find myself bored as I’m always doing completely different things. Every day I learn something new; whether that is on InDesign or any other programmes we use, learning what a new word means or being shown a shortcut, it’s great as I’m constantly picking up new things.

What is your proudest achievement so far?

My proudest achievement so far is having several press releases I wrote being published onto the Recruiter website and inside their magazine.

Is recruitment what you thought it would be?

As I am on the marketing side of the company I see first-hand how busy it is and how much goes into the work we do for the recruiters. Working in recruitment is what I thought it would be and more, I love working with a company who cares about what you do and gives you every tool you need to thrive in your career.

What is the best bit of advice you’ve been given?

The best piece of advice I have been given was at the beginning of my apprenticeship, by Sharon one of the receptionists. She told me to take in as much as I can, but not to rush and cram in every single piece of information in at once, otherwise I won’t remember everything and will end up getting worked up. She said to slowly take in everything and focus on doing your best in what you are learning. It really helped me to take every day as it comes and take every single piece of information on-board.
