Meet Amy, Athona’s Business Manager for our Psychiatry team, who recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary working at Athona. To mark this achievement, we took the time to catch up with Amy and find out more behind her reasons for choosing a career in recruitment, her progression over the last 10 years and any future goals and aspirations she may have.

Keep on reading to hear what Amy had to say.

Tell us a bit about your role at Athona

I had been a recruitment consultant at Athona since 2014 until last year, where I was promoted to business manager. I still actively recruit for locum psychiatrists to place into the NHS and private sector on a daily basis, however, now I also support a number of other RCs on the team, to ensure we are continuously providing high levels of service to our candidates and clients.

Why did you choose recruitment and how did you get into the industry?

I first started in the medical recruitment industry in 2010 as a compliance officer. After a year or so, I decided I wanted to step away from the admin side and step into a more placement focussed role. I enjoyed speaking with candidates about their lives and future career goals and loved having the opportunity to place them into their perfect role.

What does your progression route through Athona look like?

I have always worked on the Psychiatry team and have enjoyed building my knowledge and experience within this division. My time at Athona has seen me start out as a recruitment consultant and worked through our career framework to senior RC, executive RC, team leader and now business manager. It’s been a busy ten years!

What do you enjoy most about Athona and why have you stayed for 10 years?

Time really has flown by, and I can honestly say I don’t know where the last 10 years have gone!

Athona has supported me in both my professional and personal life, which is definitely the main reason why I have stayed here for so long. The Psychiatry team are a lovely bunch of people to work with and that genuinely makes it easier to come to work every day!

How has the psychiatry market changed since you have been at Athona?

Whilst the market continues to change on a regular basis, the foundations are still the same. In the last 10 years, we’ve had to contend with IR35, capped rates, compliance changes and pandemics to name but a few. But the core part of our role has never changed and we’re still here to support the NHS and their services by supplying high quality candidates, despite those many challenges and changes.

Do you have any future goals or aspirations for your career?

I’ve achieved so much in the last 10 years and continue to strive for more, however that may look!

My current goal is to continue pushing both myself and the team forward and in turn be the main agency supplier of locum psychiatrists to the NHS.
